Why We Don’t Do Valentine’s Day!!!

I can remember the exact moment Valentine’s Day lost it’s meaning for me…

My husband took me out to dinner for Valentine’s Day. We had a reservation and had left our 7 month old home with my mom. I got all dolled up and was starving! Even with a reservation we were pushed back into a ridiculous two hour wait!

What the…??? WAIT…WHAT??? YUP… you heard me right…a two hour wait, WITH A RESERVATION!!! Get this…PEOPLE WERE WAITING!!!

My husband and I are two peas in a pod when it comes to hunger. When we need food we become the most anti-social people you have ever met! Our conversations…I kid you not, become a crazed caveman dialect that consists of grunting responses to each other! People who really know us, know that we are just hungry at that point and don’t take anything personal!

So now that you know our history…you understand why we got the hell outta dodge! We could sit and tell you about the first part of that night…can’t remember where we ate or what we did after point “A”. We definitely agreed that after that night we would not go out on Valentine’s Day ever again!

Now you might be thinking… “WELL OKAY DRAMA QUEEN” dinner is no reason to get that upset and write off an entire holiday! I don’t mean to brag but my simple nature is one of the reasons my hubby fell so hard for me🤪😘! He always says he got lucky because…I am not into jewelry…less is more, please do not kill any flowers on my behalf, and please don’t waste money on chocolates I will probably throw away! We are more of a wine, dinner, & massages kinda couple!

A few years later we tried going out again…but not on Valentine’s Day. We went a week before thinking we could avoid the crowds…no such luck!

It is seriously just not for us! For those who have had great Valentine’s Days, I am sincerely happy for you! For those who can’t get into that grove…I feel your pain!

Why do we have to try to conform to Valentine’s like the media portrays it should be done, for the sake of candy and flower sales? We have chosen to play it our way instead!

We typically stay home, relax, make dinner, pop in a movie, maybe breakout with the karaoke, play a board game and just enjoy time as a family! We have chosen instead to proclaim everyday as Valentine’s Day. Not days of gifts but days where we enjoy and appreciate the time we get to spend with each other.
