A large part of our homeschooling happens in the kitchen. So I have to wake up to a clean, functioning kitchen to get our day going.
I used to stay up late to vacuum the kitchen floor unless the kids had spaghetti or white rice. I let the pasta dry over night because it is easier to vacuum in the mornings (don’t judge!!). Unfortunately that means staying up late to clean all of the floors except for under the table…and wake up early to clean the floor under the table before we start school.😒🙄
I can’t remember what holiday we were celebrating but my husband and I agreed not to give each other gifts for any holiday…period!!! We agreed that we would talk about a need/want for the house, a vacation, or a date night instead!
Last Christmas we agreed to buy the Roomba as our gift to each other! Instead of buying crap for each other that we don’t really need or want…We got something that would help us as parents and as a couple!
You might be asking how a Roomba makes us a better couple and parents! Let me explain our madness…
How it benefits us as parents…
While the Roomba is busy cleaning the floors for us, we have a little extra time to read a story to the kiddos and put them to bed! We can put our kiddos to bed without feeling the stress of having to rush the process so we can go clean the floors.
How it benefits us as a couple…
I am a compulsive cleaner, I can take a cleaning project that should take 30 minutes and make it into an hour project. This makes it a very late night vacuuming. As a couple my husband and I feel that quality time with each other once the kids are asleep is very important to our relationship. So while the Roomba is vacuuming the messy floor from that day (and yes it picks up rice and pasta from that day) my husband and I get to spend quality time with each other!
Now I have had people tell me, “Well what about dishes…you still have to do the dishes”? This is true, unfortunately they have not created a robot for dishes…oh wait that’s my dishwasher! I am anal retentive about many things but dishes is not one of them (someday I will share that story with y’all). So while the kids get ready for bed my husband helps that process while I load the dishwasher (next night I help the kids and he loads the dishwasher). While I am loading the dishwasher the Roomba is already vacuuming the floors! WHAT???? That’s right multitasking at its finest!!!
So there is less on our plates and we can enjoy our evenings a bit more as a family and as a couple!
I have made peace with the messy floors during the day because the only effort it takes on my part is pushing a button! This peace, as silly as it sounds has brought a simple happiness to my life!
People have expressed the concern over the price of the Roomba. I get it, that’s why instead of each of us spending money on things we really didn’t need…we agreed on this for the greater good of our happiness and sanity!
Life is to short, sleep is to precious, and family moments are to important and worth the investment of the Roomba!
Side note…I do note work for the Roomba company. I just really love my Roomba!
